JNW Studios is an award winning architectural and interior design practice led and formed by architect Julian Norman-Webb in 2013. The firm has a track record of designing and coordinating projects that exceed the clients' expectations and are completed within an agreed budget. The firm is young but experienced and highly responsive to its clients. Our Sarasota, Florida based studio can design buildings for clients in the private, public and non-profit sectors, providing well thought out solutions across a wide range of scales: from small institutions to large Houses of Worship and from individual custom private residences to large residential estates.
Clients chose our firm and we pride ourselves on:
• our ability to listen and then communicate
• the rigor of our design process and respect of project budget and schedule
• our ability to work with multiple stakeholders and the public
• our ability to step back from a project and juggle many different parameters in order to tease out a solution that really works
• and what is remembered after the end of a successful process, the beauty and ease of use of our built work.
All of our work is undertaken collaboratively within our studios and with a seasoned team of engineers and expert consultants, most of whom we have had relationships with for ten years or more. Our architectural design automatically includes sustainable design strategies that reduce energy costs and clients can request a more aggressive approach to target carbon neutrality.
Our first choice for our new $6.5 million church update and expansion program. Aside from being an amazingly creative architect with great liturgical sensibilities and true vision, Julian is personally a delight to work with. Intelligent and easy-going, one of his great gifts is the capacity to determine what the project requires and the ability to translate that into terms that all the parishoners could easily understand. He is a great communicator, explaining designs and concepts to a large audience; something that is crucial to the success of a project of this size in order to secure and maintain funding."
Father Donald Henry, Pastor - St. Thomas More Parish, Sarasota, Florida
Over the several years of our working together, I have come to know Julian well and to value his character and skill;
• his integrity
• his ability to successfully share - on so many levels - a very clear picture of what his ideas will look like. He tells the story often and well; explaining the plan, teaching the details, crafting a fine model.
• his power to think critically and calmly - and with confidence and good humor, resolve the unplanned challenges …
Should you choose Julian as the architect for your residential or commercial project , you will have chosen wisely."
Harriet D. Stephenson, Allied ASID - Stephenson Interiors / St. Thomas More Parish Building Committee, Sarasota, Florida
When Julian undertook the design to renovate and enlarge our home, his proposal to reverse the existing kitchen and family room was a master-stroke that shattered our preconceptions but responded perfectly to our family lifestyle…we were so pleased that we later commissioned his firm to undertake our new Sarasota downtown restaurant."
Christophe Coutelle, Lolita Tartine French Restaurant, Sarasota, Florida
Julian was very professional, providing us with different design options as we first started the project. He produced a final design well within our budget and provided all the documents within the necessary schedule. He was easy to work with and communicated effectively with our general contractor. We recommend Julian without hesitation!"
Paco Martinez, Sarasota, Florida
First Step of Sarasota contracted with Carl Abbott FAIA + Associate in 2008 for the design of our new $30 million, 28,000 SF residential treatment facility here in Sarasota. Julian, as the Associate in the firm, was our main contact and undertook much of the programming and design work.
Julian and his team spent a great deal of time interviewing staff and analyzing our existing facilities and treatment programs in order to fully understand how we functioned as an organization. The resulting analysis of our needs and the design were presented over several meetings in a clear, concise manner. It allowed me as President, to fully grasp the character of the proposed campus design as detailed in presentation drawings and a large-scale model…it met our objective of providing a state-of-the-art, relaxed and comfortable residential treatment facility without an institutional feel.
Due to the economic climate at the time, we were unable to proceed with the project. However, we genuinely appreciated Julian's talents, attention to detail and his highly professional approach. I feel confident in recommending him for any similar large-scale project."

Julian Norman-Webb AIA, NCARB, LEED AP BD+C
Julian is a Florida registered architect (FL AR96720) and a NCARB Certificate holder, providing him with reciprocity in the other States. He is also an accredited professional in sustainable design as a United States Green Building Council (USGBC) LEED AP Building Design + Construction.
As Principal Architect of JNW Studios, Julian leads and supervises all design work within the studios from project inception to the completion of construction. He considers it extremely important that the client has a single face and point of contact throughout the design and construction process. He returns a year after the completion of construction to ensure everything is operating as the client needed.
He graduated from the acclaimed University of Bath School of Architecture and Building Engineering. Always looking outside of the box, Julian was awarded scholarships at the Ecole Nationale Superieur des Arts et Industries de Strasbourg (INSA de Strasbourg) and the Ecole Superieur d'Architecture de la Communaute Francaise, Brussels. He then gained a certificate in Architectural Practice and Management from University College London's Bartlett School of Architecture.
Julian has twenty years of experience of new construction and renovation in France, United Kingdom and the United States; working in different languages and with the different local and national Codes. He cut his teeth in the office of Dominique Perrault on the vast Bibliotheque de France and with Michel Kagan on several contemporary urban housing schemes in Paris. Determined to understand how to build his designs and manage multi-million dollar budgets he worked in central London as a Site Engineer within Bouygues Construction's multi-national team building new medical research facilities for Guy's Hospital and a hotel just off Trafalgar Square.
Prior to establishing his own practice in Florida, Julian was the Associate in Carl Abbott FAIA + Associate Architect / Planners and oversaw many of the daily operations of the firm, undertook client communications and was deeply involved in the design process: most notably with the 90,000 SF First Step of Sarasota Campus Redevelopment; the 215 unit Sarasota DeSoto Park Community Master Plan and residential design; MCC Church of the Trinity, Sarasota; and several custom beachfront residences requiring special State and County permits and variances.
